Most of these so-called research browsers that Mr. Zillman's listed use
TouchGraph software. Since Mr. Zillman's document is undated except for a
2004 copyright, it's hard to say when it was researched other than maybe
some time this year. So-called research browsers that he missed that use
TouchGraph technology and that are more or less available now are
* Huminity for visualizing online social networks
(http://www.huminity.com/) - TouchGraph listing is dated February 17, 2004
* NeuroScholar (http://chasseur.usc.edu/html/index.php) - TouchGraph listing
is dated February 17, 2004
* Planet-Wissen Navigator (http://www.touchgraph.com/PlanetWissen.html) - on
the TouchGraph home page, but undated
* TG WikiBrowser (http://www.touchgraph.com/TGWB_101_SS.html) - on the
TouchGraph home page, but undated, this is a demonstration of an open source
product
The TikiWiki GroupWare/CMS (http://tikiwiki.org), the app I use for my
personal site, also contains some kind of a Java applet wiki browser,
probably the same TG WikiBrowser. I don't have it activated on my site, but
you can try it out on the Tiki home page by selecting the link to 3D
Browser.
For other starting points to wikibrowsers or visualization of wiki content,
see http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/mb.pl?WikiBrowser
There's also lots of crossover between these so-called information
visualization browsers and personal information managers such as Tinderbox
(http://www.eastgate.com/Tinderbox/).
