ACCESSIBLE WEB DESIGN: TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
ARL/OLMS Online Lyceum Course
July 8 - August 16, 2002

The Association of Research Libraries is pleased to offer "Accessible Web
Design" via the Online Lyceum. This course, created in partnership with
the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries, addresses the broad range
of complex issues associated with creating and maintaining a well designed
and accessible website.

During this course you will:

* Identify your site's target audience and the content you want to deliver
* Develop an effective navigation system and well-conceived presentation
style for your site
* Think critically about accessible web design principles and
resources--including the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) accessibility
standards--and identify how you will incorporate these into your website's
design
* Become familiar with copyright issues and resources as they relate to
the Web
* Become aware of issues related to graphics and the Web
* Develop a working familiarity with Dreamweaver 4's interface and a basic
understanding of it as a web-authoring and site management tool
* Develop a working familiarity with Fireworks 4 and its image- and
button-creation tools and export features.

Target Audience

The intended audience is producers of web-based content who are concerned
with creating flexible and scalable websites that meet the World Wide Web
Consortium accessibility guidelines, using Macromedia's Dreamweaver 4 and
Fireworks 4. Both novice and expert developers have benefited from this
course.
