Hello!
In addition to being the special librarian for the engineering
department of a a large cellular telecom company I was also the chief
of their Computer-Aided Drafting and Designing shop for about three
years.
The best advice I can give on a tablet is to persist in trying several,
since you have never done work on a tablet. Unless you live in a huge
city you will find it difficult to find a dealer who actually has some
models working for trial purposes. You will then be forced to go
around drafting departments of large corporations or governments,
politely asking for the occasion to try out their equipment. But it
will be worth it, because good tablets are closer to $1000 than $100.
I would never have suggested a "tablet PC" to anybody doing serious
drafting work but personal drafting habits vary so much that you might
has well give it a try too. But do not forget to try other touch
screen computers like the Fujitsu notebooks. They have a lot more
experience with touch screen equipment than the companies currently
coming up with their rendition of the Microsoft "tablet PC" standard.
Finally, if you are the kind of person who likes to work standing up
and often does things with large arm strokes take a look at the
smartboards by smarttech. They are giant touch screens.
