In January netConnect, Library Journal, School Library Journal and Jones
e-global library announced a new award recognizing the unique contributions
libraries have made in building the World Wide Web. Now the final deadline
for submissions is just about a week away: April 15, 2002.
The nominating process couldn't be easier. You may nominate your own or a
colleague's web site in a letter of about 500 words, detailing the goals and
achievements of the nominated library web site. Emphasize what makes your
site stand out.
Every library must look for the best expression of its own mission and its
unique community. With this in mind, a panel of library leaders with
experience in a variety of institutions will look at the nominees while
considering criteria such as: Community Impact; Usability; Range of
Resources; Responsiveness to Constituencies; Clarity of Design;
Accessibility.
Public, School, and Academic Library sectors will each be recognized. In
each sector, there will be one award for a large library and one for a small
library, so libraries will only be competing against their peers. Altogether
we will present six netConnect Library Web Site Awards at the upcoming
American Library Association Annual Conference in Atlanta. Each award is
accompanied by a grant of $1500 from Jones e -global library .
Additionally, honorable mentions will be given in several specially focused
categories such as Teen-Oriented Pages, Spanish-Language Sites, and
Information Literacy Instruction. If you have developed a specialty site of
any kind, whether dealing with a particular topic, community group, or
library issue, you may nominate it with a simple letter. Again outline, what
you saw as the problem to be solved or the goal to be achieved and discuss
how you think those challenges were successfully addressed.
Address submissions (e-mail, fax, or postal mail) to:
