How about organizing resources according to how the subject/field in 
question organizes itself?  Otherwise you'll have to duplicate "social 
psychology" access/resources for both the psych. and the sociology 
departments.

How a professional/academic field may organize itself, however, is often 
not a path without its row of thorns.  ;)
