Firewall Products

I want to know what firewall products are usually being used in a medium to large organization now to protect LAN from negative access, in another word, what firewall products are quite popular and widely used for different organizations.  I learned that hardware firewall works better than software, some says they use blackbox hardware firewall + software, I just want to choose a right firewall that I can define the policy, etc.. Thanks!
