There is a CSS2 selector  :first-line

The web review support grid at
http://www.webreview.com/style/css2/charts/selectors.shtml indicates that
for Windows95/98/NT only IE5 and Opera 3-5 support it. Netscape 6 partially
supports it, and Netscape Communicator 4 and IE4 do not support it 

On the Mac, IE5 supports it and Netscape 6 partially supports it. Not sure
about Opera.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what partial means in this instance




other than CSS2 selectors .. the next best bet is to approximate it using
definition lists as has been already suggested
