There was a lively discussion on PC and peripheral power consumption last
August. The Web4Lib archive will pull out some good details from Walt
Crawford, Dan Lester, and others. IMO, if you haven't gotten Energy Star
PCs, monitors, and printers by now, your purchasing people have been
irresponsible; if you have, give them a reasonable configuration and let
them do their own power management. Concentrate on heating, air
conditioning, and building lighting if you want to make inroads in energy
efficiency.
