SENIOR LIBRARY SYSTEMS COORDINATOR

The Los Angeles Times' Editorial Library has an opening for a systems
coordinator to manage our text archive and research database systems and
administer the RS/6000 server on which they are housed. This person
supports daily feeds of Los Angeles Times stories to the Times' Web site
and a number of external information providers, and performs all other
tasks to support text archives and coordinate with the Library's graphics
archives. 

Qualifications: Three years experience in: design and administration of
large, complex full-text databases; Unix system administration, with at
least one year of experience in RS/6000 AIX system administration; and
Perl and shell scripting. Demonstrated knowledge of system and design
issues related to large text databases, including content description,
text search and retrieval, and data description formats such as XML and
HTML. Applicants should have a thorough understanding of user behavior and
information needs, and be able to work efficiently in a deadline-driven
environment to support the production schedule of the paper. Master of
Library Science degree and experience in JavaScript and CGI programming
preferred.
