LOCATION: Houston Cole Library, 700 Pelham Road North, Jacksonville
State University, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Jacksonville State
University's main campus is located at the foothills of the
Appalachians
about 1.5 hours Northeast of Birmingham and 2 hours west of Atlanta,
Jacksonville offers a beautiful, scenic location. JSU has the
laid-back
charm, beauty and security of a small southern village. Total
enrollment
is approximately 8,000 students. The Houston Cole Library contains
over
600,000 titles. The staff is composed of 14 professional librarians
and
19 paraprofessionals. The facility is divided into eight subject
divisions and uses the Voyager integrated online management system.
DUTIES: The Houston Cole Library is a selective depository for the
Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). With few exceptions, U.S.
Government publications will be furnished to Federal depository
libraries solely in online electronic formats. The Electronic
Resources/Documents Librarian will be responsible for managing the
Government Documents area and coordinating the transition to a total
electronic environment. Primary responsibilities include: providing
expertise for defining and supplying appropriate accesses to the
document collection and other library electronic resources; performing
original cataloging of electronic resources by creating MARC
cataloging
records and non-MARC metadata records; assisting in the maintenance of
electronic resources and the continual updating and upgrading of web
site content; providing support to library staff and liaisons
regarding
changes in the library's electronic environment. As a member of the
library's automated systems team, the Electronic Resources/Documents
Librarian will assist in developing management information reports,
analyzing workflows, maintaining quality control of the electronic
resources, evaluating applications, and providing training for library
staff. This is a Technical Services position requiring participation
in
reference services, collection development, University committees, and
professional organizations. The Electronic Resources/Documents
Librarian reports to the Head of Library Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent; experience in
electronic resources; working knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, LC
classification, USMARC and non-MARC metadata formats; familiarity with
a
bibliographic network, preferably OCLC, experience with major
electronic
information delivery formats as well as web publications methods and
standards; knowledge of web browser technologies, and excellent
organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; PREFERRED:
Experience in an academic library, integrated library systems
(preferably Voyager), knowledge of electronic library initiatives, and
an understanding of computer networking.
Evidence of ability to meet criteria for tenure.
RANK AND SALARY: Rank and salary are contingent upon qualifications,
experience and needs of the university. Minimum salary for the
Assistant
Professor rank is $32,288 for the NINE-MONTH contract. Summer contract
options are available. In the event that this tenure-track position is
not filled as tenure-track, applicants may be considered for a
temporary
or visiting position for one year.
