LSSI Looking for A World Class Manager for New Virtual Reference Center

Dear Colleagues,

LSSI is looking for a world-class reference manager to help develop and
manage the world's first virtual reference call center in Germantown,
MD.  The person we have in mind looks a lot like a cross between Katharine
Hepburn and Spencer Tracy in Desk Set ... Like Katharine, you should
have a substantial amount of experience with traditional reference services
and really know your way around print and electronic resources in a wide
variety of subject fields. You should be able to get along easily with
people and manage a wonderful staff of highly skilled professionals and
paraprofessionals.  You should also be able to name all of Santa's
reindeer and throw great holiday parties.  Like Spencer, you should not be
afraid to take the knowledge and experience you have gained over the years
and
work to translate it into the brave new world of virtual reference.  If none

You will be responsible for helping to develop and manage a virtual
reference call center that is providing live online reference services
to a variety of academic, public and corporate libraries.  The call center
operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (although you won't need to be
there all that time) and has a small but growing staff of some of the
most dedicated and enthusiastic reference staff in the profession.  Much of
what you will be doing is brand new ... nobody has ever done anything like
it before ... so you should be very comfortable with change and doing
things that are new and exciting ... and with making things up as you go
along.

Finally, you must be deeply committed to providing true world-class
reference service to some of the most demanding customers on the face of
the earth ... the LSSI client libraries and the patrons they serve.
