Robert-

Windows 95/98/98SE/ME can have issues when attempting to address memory
above 512MB. See the following "another bug in Windows that we will
document and ignore" article from Microsoft.

"Out of Memory" Error Messages with Large Amounts of RAM Installed

I would go with at least 128MB if not 256MB of physical memory in the
machine. How much you add depends on what you intend to do with the
machine. Windows will attempt to make "efficient" use of the memory up to
the 512MB mark noted above, and beyond that point may require some
additional tweaking, likely not worth your time and effort.

Windows 98 supports 4GB of addressable memory, though no process may use
more than 2GB. Note that this is a Virtual Memory Manager (VMM)
limitation, and therefore not specific to physical installed memory.

If you think that you will be needing more than 256MB of memory in a
workstation running Windows 98, I would suggest investigating a different
operating system.
