[WEB4LIB] intellimouse optical -- assistance please

I have one of these mice.  I simply plugged the USB connector into the
computer, popped the CD in, installed the software, rebooted the machine,
and away I went.  I never had to configure the side buttons, they were
already configured.  In Internet Explorer, the side buttons act like the
"back" and "forward" buttons of the browser's iterface.  I don't know how to
specifically answer your questions other than to say that I mine never
needed any special configuration.  Even when I use it to play a game (at,
not at work of course!) the game itself usually has options to configure the
buttons.
