Since I've already had a couple of requests for it, the source code for my
image cycler script is now available at
http://digilib.cwru.edu/js/DKH2/ImageCycle.js
If your browser doesn't just download the file you can get the same content
in plain text format at http://digilib.cwru.edu/js/DKH2/ImageCycle.txt
This implementation was done using Javascript because my knowledge of Perl
was extremely limited at the time and our server does not provide
server-side execution for anything except SafePerl. Hence, no PHP, no shell
scripting, etc...
As noted by Roy Tennant, This thing provides no added functionality to your
page and - except for the cycling - the random selection could be done
server-side in Perl. At the time our page was developed we were under a
directive to make the page visually dynamic but not at the expense of
cross-browser / cross-platform compatibility. Yes, more could be
done. Yes, more will be done.
