$51,700 - $93,100 (starting salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience, hiring range expected to be up to $72,400)
The California Digital Library (CDL) is a collaborative effort of the ten
campuses of the University of California designed to enable our libraries
to continue to meet the informational needs of University of California
students and faculty in the 21st century. The CDL acquires and builds
shared collections of digital materials, facilitates access to those
collections by the faculty and students of the University, assumes a
leadership role in providing digital content to the citizens of the State,
develops systems that encourage resource sharing, and provides a focus for
the development of strategies that guide the University's libraries through
the transition to the digital future. More information is available at

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Design Coordinator will provide leadership in the design of a web site
that facilitates access to digital library services and collections and
communicates the mission of the CDL to faculty and students on the 10
campuses of UC. Develops the overall design requirements for the CDL web
site that integrates information resources, information retrieval systems,
and knowledge management services, as well as documents related to CDL
planning efforts, projects, tools and information to assist library staff.
Designs and manages the overall structure of the CDL web site.
Evaluates and selects management tools for the site. Develops requirements
for programming enhancements and graphic design components. Facilitates a
shared design environment for campus-initiated development. Participates in
a team of CDL staff involved in web and user interface design to ensure
consistency and adherence to design principles, and to facilitate
integration of all components, including planning for the integration of
eScholarship content and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: M.L.S., including recent experience with developing digital
library services, particularly in an academic library; demonstrated
knowledge of HTML and web design tools, tools for converting documents in
other formats to HTML, and related standards; basic understanding of other
Web-based technologies; extensive knowledge of the Internet and its use in
higher education; awareness of trends and developments in the use of the
Web to deliver information and services; basic knowledge of graphic design
concepts and tools; excellent oral and written communication skills;
demonstrated analytical and organizational skills; ability to work with
management, operational, and programming staff members as well as advisory
groups from the University community. Evidence of flexibility and enjoyment
of collaborative endeavors.
Preferred: Experience with user interface design; ability to understand
and evaluate technical concepts; experience with graphics software and web
site management tools; experience with database design and dynamically
produced web content; experience with UNIX; knowledge of XML.
