Job Posting: Web Services Librarian
This position is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative
libarian to take on a leadership role in developing an innovative
library web site.
The James Madison University Libraries are committed to staff
development, technology, and innovative delivery of services. The
Libraries' nationally recognized instruction program promotes
information literacy through both classroom and web-based
instruction. Librarians enjoy faculty status, and serve as active
partners with classroom faculty through a strong academic
department liaison program.
Located in the beautiful, historic Shenandoah Valley about 2 hours
southwest of Washington, James Madison University is a public,
comprehensive university offering high-quality, innovative
programs in the liberal arts and sciences, psychology, education,
integrated sciences, health and human services, and business to a

Responsibilities: Leads and coordinates the design and development
of the JMU Libraries' web site. Recommends web policies; develops
and promotes the use of style sheets and standards; implements
formal assessment methods to ensure that public interfaces meet
user needs; anticipates needs for enhancements; and develops
proposals for web site improvements. Facilitates communication and
coordination among the web team members, content developers
throughout the libraries, and the systems staff. Monitors and
evaluates new web development tools and technologies. Serves as
liaison to an academic department and participates in reference
services. Participates in library-wide planning and governance and
works in a shared decision-making environment.
Qualifications: Accredited MLS; experience in web site management
and publishing;proficiency with web publishing applications and
graphics software; knowledge of markup languages, web design, and
Internet search skills; ability to effectively utilize absolute
and relative HTML links; understanding of advanced web
technologies such as DHTML, Javascript, and ASP; strong project
management skills; excellent communication, interpersonal,
organizational, and time-management skills; excellent
problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to apply technology
to a diverse range of library applications; strong public service
orientation; and ability to work creatively and collaboratively in
a rapidly changing environment.
12-month faculty appointment. Salary and rank commensurate with
qualifications and experience, minimum $37,000. Competitive
