Zope Experiences?

It is entirely possible that I've crossed the threshold between
young-upstart and old-fuddy, but I simply can't bend my mind around Zope.
I tried to download and install Zope for a recent database project, but I
couldn't get past the basic instructions on how do download, install, and
integrate it into an existing Apache installation. Perhaps it is that I've
hung my hat on the Perl coatrack rather than Python, but I just couldn't
envision how it would work.

There was a sentence on the Zope site which admitted to the effect that the
documentation was the weakest point of Zope at the moment. Maybe that is
true. But for my project I fell back to what I knew -- Apache with PHP4
built in, MySQL for the database, and Perl CGI for the difficult parts.

Would be very interested to hear from folks who have made it work by
integrating it with an existing web site.
