:CueCat -- Any Progress? A Mild Response

I noticed Josh Kuperman's recent posting about :CueCat and bar code
reading. He concluded that :CueCat doesn't work. My experience with
:CueCat is just the opposite. I have found :CueCat to be a useful
supplemental help and guide to other reading material.

My experience with :CueCat may, however, be more limited than Josh
Kuperman's. I have only installed it on a computer at home.

I picked up :CueCat at Radio Shack in response to promotions by the
DALLAS MORNING NEWS. As Josh noted, there was no charge for the
software and the bar code reader. The bar code reader is somewhat
frivolous in that it looks like a cat. This didn't particularly
impress me, the old dog lover that I am.

At the time of the :CueCat promotion in the DALLAS MORNING NEWS, there
was an indication that this newspaper was the only one regularly
providing :CueCat access. I certainly would be interested in learning
how widespread is the bar code availability that:CueCat responds to. I
haven't seen the bar codes in other materials than the DALLAS MORNING
     NEWS.

But, I have been at least mildly satisfied that :CueCat led me to
internet material that directly supplemented articles that appeared in
the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Certainly for the cost, it has done what I
     expected it to do.
