There is a full-time Reference Librarian vacancy in the Information Services division of the Grant R. Brimhall (Main) Library. 
$3347-4068/MONTH - The salary range does not include 7% City-paid PERS (retirement) contribution.

There are also two hourly vacancies, one at the Newbury Park Branch and one at the Brimhall Library.
$20.27-23.47/HOUR Both positions will work approximately 15 hours per week. Under general supervision, positions will provide reference and reader's advisory service at public reference and children's information desks and over the telephone.

MAJOR DUTIES for the full-time position include providing reference and reader's advisory service at the public reference and children's information
desks and over the telephone. Selects print and non-print materials. Plans and presents appropriate library programs for adults and children. Plans and presents bibliographic instruction programs and on-line information searching as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Current trends, principles and practices in public library services to adults and children; principles and methods of collection development; modern library management theory and practice; general and specialized reference and bibliographic sources for both adults and children; cataloging procedures and practices; indexing procedures and modern technology practices including the use of standard on-line research sources and the Internet; readers' advisory methodology and theory; reference interview techniques and procedures, and current publishing trends. Ability to: Establish and maintain good rapport with the general public and other staff; prepare specialized bibliographies and pathfinders; interpret library policies to the public; effectively evaluate library services and programs;
communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Courteously and effectively provide service for library patrons of all ages.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of an ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science. At least one year of public library experience is highly desirable. A valid Class C California driver's license required.

cross-trained in other departments within the Library as assigned. Positions require evening and weekend work.
