Job Title: Assistant Librarian
Department: University Library, Digital Library
Initiatives Group(DLIG)
Hiring range: $35,460 - $44,157 annually
Benefits: Yes
Hours: 40 per week

Position Summary:
The Digital Library Initiatives Group is the Library's primary planning
body for digital projects. DLIG
is charged with providing leadership in the selection, budgeting, and
implementation of major digitization initiatives; establishing
evaluative criteria from which priorities may be determined, policies
developed, and performance measures specified; and establishing the
technical architecture supporting the Library's transition to digital
services. DLIG also leads efforts to help Library staff members develop
a deep understanding of the vision and their role in it.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and support in the creation, ongoing development,
and enhancement of digital library projects.
Establishes relationships with faculty, researchers, scholarly
organizations, etc., with whom the Library may partner.
Works with library staff, campus partners, and customers to design new
products based on end-user needs.
Designs, programs, and implements digital library tools/applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library/Information Science, Management Information
Systems, or another relevant field of study.
Only applicants with an MLS degree may be granted continuing-eligibility
status; other relevant degrees/fields of study may position applicants
for a year-to-year appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills.
Working knowledge of a high-level programming language such as C, C++,
or Java.
Working knowledge of scripting languages such as PERL.
Working knowledge of relational databases.
Working knowledge of UNIX and Windows NT operating systems.
Familiarity with digital libraries.
Familiarity with open source applications and community values.
Flexibility, open-mindedness, and comfort with defining a new position
as new and additional needs become evident.
Evidence of leadership skills or strong potential for developing
leadership skills.
Ability to work with diverse people and serve a diverse population.
Ability and desire to work effectively in a team-based environment.
