POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: DIGITAL SERVICES COORDINATOR

Responsibilities: Coordinates design, development, maintenance, and
technical support for an extensive and growing Internet Web site,
which received over 3.2 million successful requests in 1999,
and a small Intranet Web site.  Oversees technical support for a
cooperative Innovative Interfaces INNOPAC system that is shared by
four independent libraries on three campuses (a new Java-client
version of the system will be implemented in 2000-2001).  Manages
technical support for emerging digital initiatives, such as
digitization projects.  Supervises two exempt professionals:
one provides technical support for the INNOPAC system; the other
provides technical support for the Web, including HTML coding.
Reports to the Head of Systems, who provides high-level INNOPAC
project management support.

Qualifications: Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited
library school; work experience that demonstrates the ability
to organize, design, and develop attractive and effective
operational Web sites (not student projects; experience does not
need to be in a systems department).  Ability to work cooperatively
with all levels of staff. Excellent communication skills.  Ability
to effectively set and attain goals in a fast-paced, constantly
changing environment. Preferred: integrated library system
support experience, management experience, Web (or other) editorial
experience, and/or academic (or other) training in information
technology.

Salary: $37,000. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement
programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program
available; released time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state
or local income tax.

Library Information: Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Systems, the
Systems Department consists of the Head of Systems, the Digital
Services Coordinator, the Coordinator of Distributed Computing, a
Systems Librarian(special projects), and six exempt technical
professionals. It supports two UNIX INNOPAC servers, two Linux Web
servers, and a NT Web server. It also supports over 350 networked
NT workstations in the main library and four branch libraries; over a
dozen CD-ROM, NT, and IntranetWare servers; a large-scale internal
10Base-T Ethernet/FDDI network; and numerous software packages. The
Libraries anticipate the construction of a large new wing on the
main library in the near future that will greatly expand their
computing and networking infrastructure.
 
The Libraries are a member of the Association of Research Libraries,
hold about 2 million volumes, and have a current materials budget of
$5 million. Total staff includes 52 professionals and 131 support
