Review of Web Search Engine basics:
Activity 1. Comparing Web Search Engines and Search Directories
Activity 2. Basic Web Searching Practice

Advanced Web Search Activities:
Activity 3.  Advanced Search Options Practice
Reading selected search strategy articles.
Activity 4. Multiple Search Engine Searches Practice
Activity 5. Using Subject Directories and Electronic Library Collections
Activity 6. Key Subject Databases on the Web

Overview


In this hands-on workshop participants will learn to use Web search 
engines and other information finding strategies.  Advanced search 
skills will be covered.  Basic search skills will be reviewed.

Students will be required to login and use the online conferencing 
system for ten minutes at least 1 day before connecting to the online 
live class sessions.   Plan on at least one to one half  to one hour 
for each online activity for a total of 4-6  hrs of  hands-on work. 
Lecture, discussion and overview time will vary.  When online live 
time is scheduled it will be 2 hrs.

Audience

This workshop is intended for people  want to learn to more 
efficiently use the Web as an information source

Participants should know how to use e-mail and Netscape Communicator 
or Internet Explorer well.  Netscape or IE 4.5 or higher is preferred.

Schedule

This workshop is scheduled live online September 27
  NOON-2:00 P.M. EDT (11:00-1:00 P.M. CST)
                                                        or
Schedule Arrangements for other small groups (minimum of 5 people) 
may be made on an individual basis
by contacting the instructor.

Registration and Tuition

$75 - Class size is limited to 15 people per session
Arrangements for additional online live sessions will be made if 
there are additional registrations.

Materials
All materials will be online on interactive Web pages. Color printed 
packets will be priority
mailed to each participant on receipt of payment, or purchase order.

Mechanisms for Instruction
Participants will interact through e-mail
with the instructors before and after the workshops.

Participants will meet live online for overview, lectures and discussions.

Participants will complete hands-on Web-based activities at
their own pace between and after scheduled online live meeting with 
the guidance
and in consultation with the instructor.

Instructors will provide free training on using the Diversity 
University MOO facility for real-time
communication Participants will connect to http://www.du.org:8888 for
real-time instruction.   Logins and passwords will be provided on
request after registration.

Java enabled Netscape or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher are required.
