[WEB4LIB] preventing patron access to ftp

Install a firewall on your network. Block outgoing ftp access from those
machines with the firewall. With a decent firewall you can specify source
address and port to block, so you can block only those terminals.
On a related note, I am suprised more libraries don't use Unix terminals for
public access. Windows 9x, even Windows NT, makes a very poor public
terminal because of their poor security. Are there any libraries that use
Unix public terminals? Comments?

Subject: [WEB4LIB] preventing patron access to ftp

Hello!

Is there a way to prevent library patrons from using FTP from a windows
95/98 terminal - NT combination with Fortres installed? The library could
remove the software, but could the patron be prevented from downloading and
installing the software for the duration of his time at the computer?

Thank you.
