Red Deer College is currently seeking to fill two
librarian positions.

1. Sessional Faculty Librarian position

Red Deer College is a dynamic, comprehensive college
serving 5000 students and the community of Central
Alberta. The Library enjoys full support of the
College and community. Ideally located in time and
place, the Library is an active participant in The
Alberta Library, NEOS Library Consortium and in other
provincial partnerships and initiatives.

As a learner focused, customer driven, leading edge
library, our mission is to facilitate access and
delivery of information, strengthen learning and
support teaching for Red Deer College and the
community.

Red Deer College Library is seeking a Librarian on a
contractual basis (with potential to become full-time
continuous).  Working within a collaborative team
environment, you will develop and maintain the 
Library website.  As such, you will play a leadership
role in developing web resources (both for fee and
free), and in planning for the necessary training for
staff and students.

As an advocate for the library services provided, you
will collaborate with faculty and staff involved in
distance learning course delivery. This will include
developing appropriate resources and materials to 
support these courses as well as participating in the
development of a virtual reference service (in
partnership with NAIT and GMC).

You will also participate in reference and collection
development services and in teaching in the library
instruction programme.

Qualifications:  Applicants must possess a MLIS or MLS
degree from an accredited institution with experience
working in a dynamic, fast-paced public service
environment.  Excellent computer skills and previous 
experience working in a networked environment is
essential.  Knowledge of HTML and experience creating
Web pages is required. Knowledge of reference sources
and processes as well as experience teaching
individuals and groups are essential.  Must be able to
demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer
service skills.  Experience and understanding of
principles and practice of consortium and
collaboration activities would be an asset.

Salary: commensurate with education and experience
Start date: May 15, 2000, or as soon as possible
End date: April 30, 2001

programme.  You will develop information literacy
competencies that will become the foundation of 
the programme. As a faculty member, you will also work
with your colleagues to promote the programme and to
expand its range. You will co-ordinate all aspects of
the programme from training library instructors to
evaluating the learning outcomes.

As an advocate for the library services provided, you
will collaborate with faculty and staff in the
development of reference services.  This will involve
working closely with the head of Reference in
proactively planning for reference services in the
21st century.

You will also have a major role in teaching in the
library instruction programme  and in providing
reference and collection development services.

Qualifications:  Applicants must possess a MLIS or MLS
degree from an accredited  institution with experience
working in a dynamic, fast-paced public service
environment.  Knowledge of reference sources and
processes as well as experience teaching individuals
and groups are essential.  Must be able to demonstrate
