I recommend information found at Philip Greenspun's site:
"what I've learned from building 200 database-backed Web sites"
<http://www.photo.net/wtr/>
"which is notably organized into _Philip and Alex's Guide to Web
Publishing_" (since I lifted his text directly I thought I should indicate
so with quotes).

This is a free book on the web or the paper edition is available for
purchase. A fun read for a computer book -- and best of all there is a lot
of good information. Really. Check out the reviews on Amazon.
