java popups--more

Thanks to colleagues all over for the many replies about javascript and java popups--I've got some great examples to show our Web committee. I'll post a compilation within the next week.

As to the comments about this technique being less than useful--I have to second Leo's comments below. We went from a cluttered to a relatively sparse design (again, http://www.library.ohiou.edu/ ) and don't want to lose the graphical simplicity, yet we do want to include more information. I myself find java popups useful--and certainly not as annoying as blinking and twirling images--though if people do find them so, I guess I should know that.

This may not be possible where screen real estate is at a premium and you
have more than half a dozen links--either the page looks too cluttered (and
hence confusing) with all those explanations or you have a main page where
the user has to scroll (yuck).

As in most things, there's no easy answer though I don't think rollovers
will go the way of "blink".
