For my money, a great milestone in library technology was the publication
of:
Mason, Ellsworth. The Great Gas Bubble Prick't or, Computers Revealed-by a
Gentleman of Quality. College and Research Libraries. (32:3; 183-196). May
1971.
Ellsworth Mason, then director of the library at Temple University, makes a
compelling argument against the use computers in libraries. Should be
required reading for all futurists.
