There is a new product made here in Australia called estream (look at
http://www.estream.com.au) that is a just-in-time approach to computer
application training.
It consists of a knowledge base of thousands of short (2-5min) segments,
that show how to do a particular task in a range of software applications.
The users drills down in categories eg
1. select: Microsoft
2. select: Excel
3. select: how to display formulas
A streaming multimedia video shows you how. The system needs a multimedia PC
computer with Internet or Intranet access and the Windows Media Player
installed.
Most of the computer training is in the 'estream for business' category at
the site, which requires paid subscription. However anyone can register as a
guest for free and look at the 'estream for home' category to see how the
technology works.
I heard they have just signed a deal with ACER and the Victorian Dept
Education to have the estream knowledge base placed on 37,000 notebooks
about to be provided to teachers in this state.
Interesting approach I think.
