Telnet URLs

According to the Koala Book, page 174, I should be able to pass a login or
a login/password combo in a Telnet URL, just as you can in an FTP
URL. Well, I can't make it work.

I'm trying to have users click on a link to
telnet://catalyst.boisestate.edu/ That part works fine. However, the
login is "catalyst" (lower case, no quotes, of course), and despite the
instructions on the web page, some folks can't seem to handle it. I've
tried it as telnet://catalyst:@catalyst.boisestate.edu/,
telnet://catalyst@catalyst.boisestate.edu, and as
telnet://login:password@catalyst.boisestate.edu/ (using my personal login
and pw, which I'm not going to announce, of course) and none of them
work. Well, they connect just fine, but apparently do not pass the login info.

The system, in case it matters, is Geac Advance on Solaris 2.5.1.

Any answers, clues, hints gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

dan
