[WEB4LIB] library web pages v. bookmarks

Right now our library is using a default home page that we have produced
in-house that functions as a place to hold the library's collection of
bookmarks. We chose to go this route because we are able to make the
Internet Usage Policy prominent on that page and to explain any of the
ambiguously named sites so that people know where they are going. This page
is stored on our internal server and isn't available at all to the WWW at
large. We have had some very positive comments on the page - a lot of
people like the fact that we include links to the major search engines as
well as Kid safe search engines along with guides to the Internet and links
to our research databases.

Subject:	[WEB4LIB] library web pages v. bookmarks

Hi folks,

Does anyone have any opinions on the use of bookmarks versus a library web
page? I mean listing the links on the library web page as bookmark files &
placing on each machine.
Any input on promoting the use of library web pages would also be welcome.

Thanks
