was very reluctant to do this, but have turned on ssi parsing of all 5K
pages in a a medium traffic site  (~3-4M raw hits/mo) with no visible
degradation, since early 1998. developers like this for obvious reasons
of laziness :-).

that is a very wise suggestion.
