Yes, XML does use Unicode, which is a good thing. Unfortunately,
there are some disagreements over Unicode and CJK text, but I don't
know what they are. I'd recommend doing some searches on the topic
and see if you can locate a summary of the arguments.
For XML training, there are no bibles right now. I liked Elliotte
Rusty Harold's "XML: Extensible Markup Language" although you should
know that the flavor of XSL he used is no longer part of the proposed
standard. For information on designing DTDs with a traditional SGML
approach, David Megginson's "Structuring XML Docmuments" works well.
Both of these folks are active on the XML-Dev list which is a good
sign that they're tied into the community.
