Rushton,
Thanks for responding and pointing to your site. I like the opening page,
it was under 23K--I myself follow the 30K rule of thumb.
I especially liked your Research Request Form and how you're handling
students without email--posting answers and using an ID for students
retrieving their answers. That's something I didn't think about, or if I
did, I gave it pretty short shrift. I'm going to consider your approach.
Was FAQ Question 1 at http://www.open.k12.or.us/oslis/faq/question_1.html
an example of a response to a student request?
I think using a graphic as your table of contents or site map will be
frustrating, however, in the long run. It's a good graphic. I like its
simplicity, clarity and structure. The file is certainly small enough.
Together, the graphic represents no small accomplishment. However, I think
you'll want to add to or modify your site and will need to change your
entry to it. I think working with a graphic to do this may be frustrating.
The categories also may be subject to some flux. For example, I assumed
that "Library Links" would provide me access to library catalogs and other
library sites. "Online Tools" is also a hard category to pin down and will
mean different things to different people. Also, from its prominence given
to "Search," I assumed that this would take be to a form to search your
site. Especially early in the development of your site, you may want to
decouple the splash from the structure and links into your site. Just food
for thought.
Thanks again!
