One more solution if you have changed the file associations
for .exe files:

	Open "My Computer"

	Navigate to c:\windows\inf\shell.inf

	Right click on shell.inf, and select "install" from
	  the context menu.

I don't know if there are any undesireable side effects
from this, but it works.
