The University of Connecticut Libraries seek applicants and
nominations for a Digital Library Intern. This 2-year position is
designed to provide an intensive learning opportunity in which the
incumbent will explore a variety of electronic resources and delivery
methods. It will also help to prepare the University Libraries
technically and organizationally for delivering digital collections as
part of a coherent suite of electronic services. The Intern's work
assignment will be supplemented by attendance at relevant professional
workshops, seminars and conferences. At the conclusion of the
internship the incumbent will, in collaboration with the Digital
Collections Team, prepare a report that assesses the Libraries'
digital collections efforts to date, identifies future needs and
directions for digital collections projects at the University of
Connecticut, and recommends appropriate organizational structures and
assignment of duties within the University of Connecticut Libraries to
meet the identified needs and directions.
Under the general direction of the Head of Information Technology
Services (ITS), the Digital Librarian Intern will be responsible for
planning, developing, and implementing an infrastructure that supports
digital collections projects and integrates those projects into our
current infrastructure. As a member of the Digital Collections Team,
the Digital Library Intern will identify potential digital
collections, manage digital collections projects, ensure access,
determine and meet quality control standards, and coordinate with
other Library teams responsible for acquiring and organizing digital
content. The Digital Library Intern will work closely with the
Libraries' Networked Services Team, Web Publishing Team, the
Integrated Library System Management Team, the ITS system and server
administrators, and other appropriate teams and individuals in
selecting appropriate technical solutions and implementation of
digital collections projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA and a minimum of two years experience in using technology for the
delivery of digital information; knowledge of concepts and
application of standards and practices for organizing information;
understanding of the scholarly use of library collections and
services; and a solid understanding of networking LAN and WAN
topologies, infrastructure and hardware.
Preferred:
Recent ALA-accredited MLS or other graduate degree in a
discipline relevant to the University of Connecticut's academic
programs.
