A couple more trends to chew on:

1/ increased variety of patron access to online materials. Everything
from very high performance workstations with large color displays and
gigabit Internet access to handheld (Palm VI or WinCE successors?)
devices.

2/ continuing shift from a copyright/ownership paradigm to a license or
even pay as you go paradigm for access to materials. The big traditional
content providers will continue to whittle away at public rights to
web-based materials (e.g. see the database bills currently in congress).

3/ increasingly soft line between entertainment industry and information
provision/access industry.
