Please be informed of the following Automation Manager position for the
Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, Topeka, KS:
AUTOMATION MANAGER
The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, located in the capital city of
Kansas, is seeking applications for a dynamic, energetic, and creative
AUTOMATION MANAGER. Topeka is home to Washburn University, close to the
University of Kansas and Kansas State University, and boasts a stable
economy and excellent affordable housing.
The Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library is composed of a Main Library and
3 Bookmobile Libraries serving a population of 160,000. The 1999 approved
operating budget is $6 million. Currently, the Library is in a $23 million
building expansion program. Internationally known architect Michael Graves
designed the 100,000 square foot addition and renovation of the existing
68,000 square feet. Completion date is scheduled for 2002. Recently, the
Library opened a Vision 2000 technology-training center to provide training
to associates and patrons. Join a team of five Automation staff to maintain
over 150 networked microcomputers, Dynix automated library system, web
server and various specialized servers.
The Automation Manager reports to the Deputy Director of Operations; manages
and coordinates the general activities/procedures/policies of the automation
unit throughout the Library and performs the following essential
administrative duties:
a.. Responsible for the overall administration of the Librarys
integrated automation system and developing technology.
b.. Develops and implements annual Division goals, procedures, programs
and projects.
c.. Annually reviews and updates the installation and replacement
timeline for incorporating updates and/or new equipment throughout the
Library.
d.. Responsible for the development of the internal and external
scheduling within the Training Center in conjunction with the Staff
Development Office, working to maximize the use of the computer training
center.
e.. Assigns and monitors departmental work flow and special projects of
the automation staff.
f.. Communicates information about evolving and new technology and
telecommunications that may be beneficial to the Library.
g.. Responds in a timely and supportive manner to all concerns from
Library staff regarding databases and/or equipment that is not working
properly.
h.. Oversees daily operation of the Division, including scheduling,
training, evaluating and problem solving related to Library technology.
i.. Actively participates in and supports staff development and
divisional staff participation in professional organization.
j.. Responsible for the development of the Strategic Plan for Library
automation and technology development, reviewing and updating annually.
Required/Desired Qualifications include:
a.. Bachelor's Degree with extensive experience in automation,
management and supervision.
b.. Knowledge of system technology.
c.. Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
d.. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and patrons; work
in cooperative situations.
Salary range $32,050-$48,418. Excellent benefits, including BCBS
health/dental at no cost to single employee ($50/mo for family plan),
retirement and cafeteria plan, 22 days vacation and 12 days sick leave.
