Table of contents database

I am also considering such a project with the series Benchmarks in
Geology.  It has important historical papers which are lost in an OPAC.

I have not yet decided if the information would best be located in a
separate database or in field 505 of the MARC record.  If the
information is in 2 separate databases, there should be some links
between them.

If we go with information in field 505 I think it would take more work
to arrange the information in the correct manner.  On the other hand if
we use a separate database the programming of links to the OPAC falls on
another department and could take considerable time.

I have tested the scanning and OCR aspects and we get an acceptable
conversion.  Very few spelling errors, but many formatting changes.
That is fine since we would not wish to preserve the formats in any
event.  We will have to proof the pages since some errors are bound to
occur.  We will be dealing with 1 series, so the typography will be
consistent.  Your project may see more errors in OCR.
