It actually isn't that uncommon for a large organization to decline to
comment on its future plans, or on a suggestion from outside on what its
future plans should be. However, they are far from ignoring his ideas. In
my keynote speech to the OCLC Users Council last May (the slides and
accompanying article are available at
http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/~manager/Presentations/OCLC/UsersCouncil99/ ),
I had an opportunity to introduce Steve Coffman's ideas. They apparently
were intrigued enough to schedule Steve himself for the next OCLC Users
Council meeting. I'd say they're listening more than may be apparent.
