I am asking if anyone on this list can help me with my problem which is
that Navigator is not making connections to the Net, ie,. no little
'comets' in the icon. This all began a couple of weeks ago, shortly
after our university changed the DNS address. I had installed Navigator
4.5 (preview Release 2) and everything was fine. Then one morning I was
told to change the DNS address in Network Neighbourhood properties.
Okay, no problem, at first. The problem didn't actually appear for two
days - for example - I was able to use Navigator when a supplier visited
and demonstrated some products. She showed me how to access Uncover and
we used Navigator. The next day it didn't work and hasn't since.
now, although messenger still works (handy as it is my email program),
when I start navigator or just click on a link in an email - navigator
appears but no little comets and the message 'document done' appears at
bottom but the screen is grey. No Web page.
I have two other browsers (Explorer (not 4) and Opera - latter
unregistered). They both work and i can use them, but I am most
comfortable using Navigator - probably the paradigm or something. I
might use Opera if i could get it registered and this I will do when I
get a net connection at home which i don't have yet.
Anyway, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the *&*% program and
just tried returning to version 4.04 - same problem still no navigator.
IE has picked up some settings from the installation and now defaults to
netcenter as home page.
The communicator installation also always fails to read the readme if I
select to view it during installation.
What is going on? Can it be fixed? without having to reinstall the whole
shooting match? I am beginning to think it might be a registry thing,
but this is just a guess.
I had the different browsers to examine my HTML practices in various
browsers, and Navigator can still view local pages if opened from within
browser but not anything else outside on the Web.
HELP, please. I can supply any other information about configuration if
it is needed and if any of you think it will give an answer to my
problem.
Cheers
David Bevington
