QUESTION: Mounting Ext.Drives

I am in the process of purchasing Seagate Metalist Hard Drives for two
MACS (7500/7200)...w/ 8.1 operating systems. I can't get the Seagates to
STAY mounted on either MAC.

Initally, the drives mount okay. But, when I shut down and restart, the
Seagate Hard Drive icons disappear--they unmount.

I have been going around in circles with the vendor. I say the problem
is that the delay switch in the hard drives have not been set properly.
They say this is not the problem.  Setting the delay switch is
accomplished by going into the casing--something I don't want to do
because it could void the warranty. I sent all the hard drives to the
company to have the delay reset, but there is no evidence that this was
done. The returned drives still don't mount. I am between a rock and a
vendor.

All SCSI devices are set at different numbers so this is not the
problem.

I would sure appreciate hearing about any potential solutions you have.
Even be willing to"go in" if  I had better directions than are provided
by Seagate's Web site.
