Don't know about the other issues you raised but we have had prefs.js set
to read-only for about 3 months now. Our goal was to prevent changes one
patron might make to fonts, colors, etc. from effecting subsequent patrons.
So far I have noticed nothing more that Netscape's normal quirky nature.
If anyone with a deeper knowledge knows a reason we shouldn't do this I
would like to hear as well.
