Library Coordinator for Distance Services

This position spans department boundaries (both in and out of the library); the incumbent must have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with a variety of people.  Position requires creativity and the vision to create new library services in response to a rapidly changing environment. Also requires the ability to determine user needs without face-to-face contact.  

Investigates trends and new technologies related to Distance Learning library services.  Provides leadership in evaluating and adopting new technologies and implements or works with appropriate library departments to implement new services.  Assists in preparation of long-term planning and direction of distance learning library services impacted by technology.  Instructs distance learners in use of library services utilizing web-based technologies, multimedia presentations, and on-line communication.  Assists at the reference desk.

Works with library departments, the Office of Distance Learning and with instructional faculty and Coordinates the delivery of library services to Distance Learners.  Assists Distance Learners with special technical issues related to the use of library resources including: assistance with electronic resources and troubleshooting of basic computer problems, web difficulties, etc. providing referrals to appropriate departments/personnel as needed.  Develops reciprocal/contractual borrowing agreements with other libraries as appropriate.

Requirement: Bachelors degree in Information-technology based field OR MLS or Masters Degree in Information Technology/related field

Skills and Experience: Experience with implementing broad-based services impacting multiple departments.  Experience with hardware (PC & Mac) and software issues relating to user access to info.  Basic knowledge of computer networks and Internet applications including: e-mail, and a variety of Internet browsers, readers, Internet conferencing tools and plug-in modules.  Ability to use Internet protocols for the delivery and retrieval of documents.  Microcomputer troubleshooting skills.  Basic knowledge of online and CD-ROM based database searching.  Basic knowledge of web authoring and design.   Excellent written and oral communication skills. Presentation/instruction experience. Customer service experience.
