Position: Manager of Digital Materials
Classification: Associate Librarian (C06)
Salary range: $39,264-51,144
BACKGROUND:
Lane Medical Library's Technical Services (TS) division works closely with
Public Services and Computing/Networking Services in support of Lane's
role in the Medical Center's mission of research, education and patient
care. TS is developing an integrated approach to collection development,
digital licensing, acquisitions and serials control, and the related
automation services, electronic materials management, and web interface
development to deploy increasingly sophisticated access to digital
(remote/local) and traditional information resources and services for
general and specialized audiences. Lane has approx. 39 FTE and a budget
of approx. $3 million.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Development of web interfaces to electronic resources and library
automated systems
2. Project supervision; coordination and collaboration with other staff
involved in the initiatives
3. Chief website manager
4. Organization, installation and management of digital information
resources
5. Participation in bibliographic management of electronic materials
6. Act as resource person for general development of staff web skills
7. Special projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates with a strong combination of technical and interpersonal skills
who are interested in deploying electronic media in a technologically
sophisticated environment are encouraged to apply. We are seeking:
1. Relevant educational background (degree in library science, medical
informatics, information or computer science, etc.)
2. Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
3. Strong analytical/problem solving and conceptual skills
4. Working technical knowledge of WWW technologies and tools (HTML, HTTP,
CGI and scripting, PDF, etc.)
5. Good general computing skills (Windows NT, Unix, database management,
office software, etc.)
6. Knowledge of library computer systems, web catalogs, electronic
publishing, standards (Z39.50, Marc, etc.)
7. Supervisory experience
