Apple Scripting

Greetings Everyone;

I hope someone can help me.

We are running several listservs for Indiana Librarians.  We are running
ListStar SMTP version for Mac using OS 8.

I would like it to happen that when some one sends an e-mail requesting
a document from one of the list that the list would automatically send
back the requested document.

I called Starnine, ListStar's maker, and asked them.  I was told that I
would have to use the AutoResponder and write an Apple Script.

As I was looking in the manual I saw other things like E-Mail on demand,
Timer, and Rules.  Could I not use one of these?

I have never written any script, so could some one encourage me or show
me a better way to do it?
