ranking search results with AltaVista

	Hello, 
Some time ago there was an interesting discussion
on Search Engines and documentation they provide,
or rather do not provide. (Why are results presented
the way they are?)
In the wake of that discussion I collected all I
know about search engines in general and Alta Vista
in particular in an article which is now on my home
page at :

It's a rather long text with a lot of tables (about 60K.)

The bulk of the text deals with the way ranking is
done. I'd appreciate input and feedback.
