My sincere thanks to all of you who made prompt response to my inquiry
on limiting search results to specific types of domains. All have been
very helpful. Here is a summary on using different search engines to
limit searches to domain types:

MetaCrowler Power Search:

Choose in the "Results From" window:

Everywhere
North America
Eurpoe
Asia
Australia
South America
Africa
Antarctica
US Education
US Commercial
US Government

AltaVista:

Use domain:de or host:de to find pages from Germany, or use domain:org
or host:org to find pages from organizations.

Hotbot:

Click the search options window and choose among:

North American (.com)
North American (.edu)
North American (.gov)
North American (.org)
North American (.net)
etc.

But make sure that the little box outside the query choice is
checked!!!!

Infoseek:

Just add url:.gov to your search words.

Northern Light Search:

Combine key word search with the catagories on the left hand side.
Among the catagories, there are Educational sites, Commercial sites,
etc..
