is hosting an information session on Monday, March 2, 1998 from 1:00 to
4:00 p.m. The session is being held at 25 Eddy Street, 7th floor,
Boardroom A, Hull, Quebec. There is no charge for this session.

Howard Strauss is the manager of Advanced Applications at Princeton
University. His group is an advanced technology group that is charged with
turning the latest information technology into practical applications. In
1987, he and his group created PNN, one of the first campus-wide information
systems, a precursor to gopher and the World Wide Web. Horward s group is
currently involved in web and Internet applications that include web
security and authentication, web access to legacy data, university web
forms, instructional uses of the web, and a new web based student
information system.
A graduate of Drexel University and Carnegie Mellon University, Howard was
previously employed by the Johnson Space Center of NASA and by Bell
Telephone Laboratories. At Princeton he has held a variety of positions in
administrative, systems, and academic computing. For seven years he was the
manager of User Services.
Howard has authored several IT courses and does information technology
consultant for many companies and universities. His futuristic < Apple PIE
> was the 2nd place winner in Apple s national competition to design
computer of the year 2000. He has published dozens of articles and is a
regular contributing author to several computer journals. Howard has a
long-term commitment to making information technology accessible to ordinary
people.

L avenir du Web, des systemes intelligents et de l enseignement
Howard Strauss, Gestionnaire des Applications avancees, Universite de
Princeton
Howard Strauss est le gestionnaire des Applications avancees a l Universite
de Princeton. Son groupe est un groupe de technologie de pointe charge de
mettre en application les dernieres technologies de l information. En 1987,
Howard et son groupe ont cree le PNN, l un des premiers systemes
d information pour l ensemble des campus, un precurseur au Gopher et au
World Wide Web. Son groupe est presentement implique dans les applications
du Web et de l Internet; ce qui comprend la securite et l authentification
du Web, l acces du Web aux donnees existantes, les formulaires des
universites sur le Web, l utilisation pedagogique du Web et un nouveau
systeme d information pour les etudiants.
Gradue de l Universite de Drexel et de l Universite de Carnegie Mellon,
Howard a deja ete employe travaille par le Johnson Space Centre de la NASA
et par Bell Telephone Laboratories. A Princeton, il a occupe divers postes
dans l administration, les systemes et l informatique au niveau academique.
Durant sept ans, il a ete le gestionnaire des Services aux utilisateurs.
Howard a ete l auteur de plusieurs cours de TI et il agit a titre
d expert-conseil dans la technologie de l information pour plusieurs
compagnies et universites. Son < Apple PIE > futuriste lui a valu la
seconde place lors de la competition nationale d Apple pour la conception de
l ordinateur de l an 2000. Il a publie une douzaine d articles et il est un
collaborateur regulier pour plusieurs revues informatiques. Howard a un
engagement a long terme qui est celui de rendre la technologie de
l information accessible a l ensemble du public.
