Finding Real Information on the  Web:  Advanced Web Searching Tips and
Techniques (6 hrs of classtime)
       Monday February 15, Wednesday February 17 & Monday February 22
       7:00-9:00 pm, EDT or via E-mail & Web

In this hands-on workshop participants will learn to use Web search
engines and other information finding strategies.  Advanced search skills
will be covered.  Basic search skills will be reviewed.

This workshop is intended for people  want to learn to more efficiently use
the Web as an information source

 Participants should know how to use e-mail and Netscape Communicator
or Internet Explorer well.

Evaluating Internet Resources
     Wednesday February 10 &  Thursday February 11, 7:00-9:00 p.m. EDT 1999
      or via E-mail & Web

In this hands-on workshop Participants will learn strategies for evaluating
information found on the  Internet that mirror the strategies used to
evaluate information from other sources

This workshop is intended for people who want to learn about using the
Internet to find high quality, authoritative information.

Participants should know how to use e-mail.  The Instructors will assist
participants to use Netscape or Internet Explorer to participate in the
real-time classes and to interact with the Web-based materials.

Mechanisms for Instruction

Participants will interact through e-mail with the instructors before and
after
the workshops.

Instructors will provide free training on using the MOO facility for real-time
communication.

Participants  will complete hands-on Web-based activities  inside and
outside of class hours, as well as 4-6 hours of Diversity University MOO
real-time classroom contact.   Participants will connect to

for real-time instruction.   Logins and passwords will be provided before
the workshop begins.

Alternatively, participants may take the workshop by e-mail  only with the
instructors.

Materials

All materials will be online on interactive Web pages. Printed packets of
materials will be sent to each participant via priority mail on receipt of
tuition checks or P.O.'s.

Diane K. Kovacs is President of Kovacs Consulting - Internet  & World Wide
Web Training & Consulting and is the editor-in-chief of
the Directory of Scholarly and Professional  Electronic Conferences. She
has more than 6 years of experience as an Internet Trainer and
Consultant.

Diane's first book The Internet Trainer's Guide, was published in 1995. The
Internet Trainer's Total Solution Guide was published in
1997.  She has also co-authored with her husband Michael Kovacs,Cybrarians
Guide to Successful Internet Programs and Services
which was published by Neal-Schuman in 1997.  She is co-authoring with  Ann
Carlson a forthcoming book Health and Medicine on the
Internet from Library Solutions Press

She was the recipient  of the Apple Corporation Library's, Internet Citizen
Award for 1992 and was the University of Illinois Graduate
School of Library and Information Science Alumni Association's first
recipient of the Young Leadership Award in 1996.

Diane received an M.S. in Library and Information Science   from the
University of Illinois in 1989 and an M.Ed. in  Instructional Technology
from Kent State University in 1993.  Shes has a B.A. in Anthropology also
from the University of Illinois, 1985.
