question about window.resizeTo javascript

I was recently using the javascript window.resizeto property to
set the size of a window using the <body onload=> tag to call a
javascript function that contained this.

This works, but has the side effect of removing all of the FILE menu
drop downs in the browser except EXIT.

Do I have to explicitly add these browser elements back in? Is there a
better way to adjust the size of a browser window (without opening a
new window)?
